A talented community group named the Bureau of Semiography has formed with a unique goal — creatively designing flags, heraldic devices and maps for Pavians.

In a world first, the bureau has produced a fully hand drawn map of the entire country of Pavia.

Other countries typically rely solely on computer generated graphics, with some going as far as adding coloured overlays atop state borders.

But no other country boasts a bespoke illustration prepared by one of its own.

Behind the bureau is Pavia’s very own hitobashiru, who has been busy making art for the benefit of the public.

“The journey around the entire coastline of Pavia to gain the cartographic knowledge needed to design the map was just incredible”, hitobashiru said.

“Our island home is full of beauty and wonder.

“I am so delighted to be able to share the map with others and draw international attention to the arts scene in Pavia.

“We truly live in a nation bursting with culture.”
